In the 16th century, men wore high heels for extra stability when riding horses, as it prevented the foot from slipping in the stirrups.
在16世紀，男人們穿高跟鞋來增強騎馬的穩定性，因爲這樣可以防止腳在馬鐙上打滑。
Modern high heels were brought to Europe by emissaries of Abbas the Great in the early 17th century. Men wore them to imply their upper-class status; only someone who did not have to work could afford, both financially and practically, to wear such extravagant shoes. Royalty such as King Louis XIV wore heels to impart status.
17世紀初，阿巴斯大帝的使節們將現代高跟鞋帶到了歐洲。人們穿高跟鞋是爲了暗示自己的上流社會地位;只有不必工作的人才能在經濟上和實際生活中穿得起這種奢侈的鞋子。皇室成員，比如國王路易十四(King Louis XIV)，通過穿高跟鞋來彰顯身份。
